Best Time to Visit Los Angeles
When is the best time to visit LA? Our month-by-month guide covers weather, events, crowds, and prices to help you plan the perfect trip.
Spring (March - May)
Spring is arguably the best time to visit LA. Weather is warm and sunny (65-75°F), crowds are manageable, and hotel prices are moderate. Wildflowers bloom in the hills. It's ideal for outdoor activities, beach days, and hiking. Oscar season wraps up in March, bringing lingering entertainment industry buzz.
Summer (June - August)
Summer brings peak tourism, higher prices, and crowds at major attractions. "June Gloom" means overcast mornings near the coast (locals love this). July and August are hot and sunny. It's best for beach activities but worst for beating crowds. Book hotels and attractions well in advance.
Fall (September - November)
Fall is LA's secret best season. September and October offer the warmest beach weather with fewer crowds. Prices drop after Labor Day. Cultural events ramp up. It's ideal for hiking as trails are less crowded. October brings Halloween events throughout the city.
Winter (December - February)
Winter in LA is mild (55-68°F) — no snow, light jacket weather. It's awards season: Grammys, Golden Globes, and Oscars bring celebrity energy. Holiday events and decorations are festive. Rain is possible but infrequent. It's the cheapest time to visit (except holiday weeks).
Events to Plan Around
Major events that impact your visit: Oscars (late February/March), Coachella (April — hotels book up), LA Pride (June), Halloween (October — WeHo goes wild), and New Year's Rose Parade (Pasadena — book months ahead). Sports seasons affect Downtown and specific neighborhoods.
Budget Considerations
Cheapest: January-February (post-holidays), September (post-summer). Most expensive: July, December holidays, event weekends. Mid-week stays are always cheaper than weekends. Last-minute deals are possible but risky for popular dates.
